Step 1: Convince Yourself that God Doesn’t Exist

For many people, the concept of an unseen intelligent creator requires a monumental leap of faith. For others, the concept of the universe creating itself out of nothing and life evolving from non-living matter requires an equally large leap of faith.

It’s no wonder why so many people identify as agnostics. It seems so overwhelming to try to figure it out. As a result, many people don’t even try. Afterall, how does the average person (even those blessed with a higher education), make sense of the science when they are not scientists? Here’s what they are up against?

Considering Theism: Did an intelligent force created the universe and all life? Is there any scientific evidence for intelligent design? The leap of faith for this theory is a foregone conclusion for many, but is there any compelling evidence being ignored?

Considering Atheism: Could the Universe have created itself from nothing? Contrary to the laws of physics, could something come from nothing? Could complex life forms have evolved from non-living matter? So widely accepted are some of these theories, that many academics are even brave enough to discuss alternatives lest they be dismissed as dullards. But there are some educated skeptics who claim a leap of faith is required to make these theories work too… a scientific leap of faith.

Alas… below you will find research and commentary from a variety of different thought leaders on the topics such as Atheism, Cosmology, the Big Bang, Evolution and God’s role (or lack thereof).

A Case for a Creator: Former Chicago Tribune reporter, Lee Strobel reviews the science that points towards Intelligent Design Theory.

Robert Spitzer: Are faith and science in conflict? Fr. Robert Spitzer shows that contemporary science is giving us the tools to test our reasons to believe, and is leading us to some surprising conclusions. More can be found in the links below.

Stephen Meyer, Ph.D.: Darwin and the Post Christian Mind: Cambridge educated Dr. Stephen Meyer reviews new scientific discoveries and fossil evidence which relate to Evolution theory. He discusses the Cambrian Explosion in which fossil evidence shows that a wide variety of species showed up simultaneously rather than over time as one would predict based on evolution theory.

Special Note: This is only one component of Evolution Theory. Current DNA research and analysis may show support for the claim of common ancestry even if the fossil record does not. [Link Below]

Trent Horn – Reasons to Believe in a Personal God – Catholicism (speaking of doctrine as a whole, not individuals), unlike some Christian sects, does not claim a literal creationist’s interpretation of the Bible. Instead, Catholicism’s basic claim is that being omnipotent, God could have chosen to create the world any way He saw fit including by way of evolution and/or the Big Bang.

William Lane Craig holds faculty positions at Talbot School of Theology, and Houston Baptist University. He’s been called the one philosopher who can put the fear of God into atheists” and does so with convincing, intelligent, and gracious arguments. Find more from William Lane Craig at

New Proofs for the Existence of God: With the incredible popularity of recent books championing agnosticism or atheism, many people might never know that such books almost completely ignore the considerable evidence for theism uncovered in both physics and philosophy over the past four decades. From universal space-time asymmetry to cosmic coincidences to the intelligibility of reality, Robert Spitzer tackles a wealth of evidence. He considers string theory, quantum cosmology, mathematical thoughts on infinity, and much more.

William Lane Craig: Richard Dawkins has become the face of the “New Atheism” and in this brief video, William Lane Craig sheds light on some problems with the theories of he and his followers in the modern atheism movement.

Answering the New Atheism: Dr. Scott Hahn and Bishop Robert Barron discuss the “new atheism” and whether the concepts are intellectually sound. If you’d like to hear more of Dr. Hahn’s arguments you can also check out this video.

Fr. Georges Lemaître — Father of the Big Bang: A Catholic priest got it right and Einstein applauded and said, “This is the most beautiful and satisfactory explanation of creation to which I have ever listened.”

Cosmic Origins explains what we know about the beginning and nature of the universe, as well as its transcendent implications in clear, easy-to-understand terms. The film weaves together a compelling narrative from academics and credentialed scientists pointing toward a very Christian understanding of how the universe came to exist. Answering Atheism: How to Make the Case for God with Logic and Clarity by Trent Horn

20 Answers on Faith & Science by Trent Horn:

Is religion at odds with science? Not according to these Catholic Scientists:

Unseen {New Evidence}: The Origin of Life Under the Microscope: In 1999 a man by the name of Jorge Bergoglio requested a scientific investigation of a very strange phenomenon in Buenos Aires. Then more cases emerged of the same thing happening in other places in the world. By the time the investigation had been completed the results were far greater than what he, or anyone else, could have anticipated. What was discovered will have an enormous impact on our understanding of the origin and nature of life itself. From a scientific point of view, it is well documented that life cannot come from non-living matter. The events presented, each an instance of non-living matter transformed into living matter, are significant standing alone but even stronger when considered together. They have been well documented, photographed and subjected to testing by reputable experts.
